About Leonie
I am a graduate of King’s College London, holding a First-Class degree in Comparative Literature, and over 300 hours of 1:1 tutoring English Literature, supporting students achieve their first-choice university offers.
Before King’s, I attended a top grammar school, leaving with an A* in A-Level English Literature including 100% in my coursework and over 90% in the final examinations.
With over two years of experience as a professional proofreader and editor, I offer unparalleled support in crafting high-scoring essays, refining arguments, and training close-reading skills. I also studied directly under two T.S Eliot prize winners/judges, solidifying both classical and modern poetry as a specialised area of my interest, and training my creative writing skills.

Leading Russell Group graduate teaching GCSE and A-Level curricula of English Literature (AQA, Edexcel, OCR*), and undergraduates reading English Literature or Comparative Literature.
I provide a bulletproof and strategic partnership with students that develops, crucially, 1) Essay writing and familiarity with the exam board– A.K.A, how to ace structure, actually impress examiners, and achieve top scoring points, 2) Engagement with the texts, including deep analysis, interpretation, secondary literature and methods of memorisation and study, and 3) Confidence; to flawlessly execute hours of study under time pressure and exam conditions. I will begin by identifying weaknesses and strengths, before curating a specialised study plan.
I track progress, provide effective and thorough feedback, and offer the flexibility of lesson plans to adapt to your very needs.
Studying with me means that each student has a bespoke style of education. I tailor each session from its lesson plan to my language to the student’s unique learning style, which I assess in our initial lessons (and then on out). I have experience working with international students who hold English as a second language, as well as people with ADHD, autism, and OCD, ensuring a patient and effective environment. It is a particular interest of mine to support these students, so if this addresses you or your child, please do not hesitate inquiring with me.
My approach is patient, clear, and compelling, as I strive to turn complex texts from Shakespeare to Donne into more familiar, and accessible ones for students to engage in. I am very adept at “translating” and demystifying abstract concepts such as poetry, so that students may get to the heart of the matter easily. Previously, I have produced visual sources, gamified narratives, and roleplay activities to enhance the qualities of my lessons, making them compelling and memorable.
I recommend 1 hour lessons, and an initial commitment of 2 hours per week to allow for deep, productive study of each text, although longer sessions are available.
*I strongly believe in the power of collaboration. You (as a parent of or student) are warmly encouraged to message me about the set texts respective to the exam board. As exam boards are constantly updating and changing, I too, am prepared to re-engage with new set texts in preparation for lessons, and at a swift pace to ensure up-to-date and precise guidance.

Leonie has been a tremendous help with studying English Literature and I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a tutor who can take a flexible and patient approach to your studies. She is tuned in to every little detail and works very hard to ensure exceptional results— a 10/10 tutor.
I have taught with - and learned from - Leonie, and I doubt you will find a kinder, more knowledgeable, more articulate English tutor on this website (or, indeed, anywhere.) Whatever she is charging, it is probably much too little. Her knowledge borders on the encyclopaedic, and her ability to distil it borders on the superhuman; there is no one I’d recommend more highly.
I was really nervous about my exams, because my teachers at school weren't supporting me enough and I felt really stuck with the texts in English Literature, but Leonie made everything so clear and actually interesting. I actually started to enjoy Shakespeare, which I never did, even at GCSE. She read the examiners reports for my exam board, Edexcel, and knew exactly what examiners look for and how to embed it in my work. I ended up achieving a grade I was really proud of and never could have expected thanks to Leonie. She is the best teacher I've ever had!
Leonie is an exceptional tutor, who is patient, very clever, and kind. My daughter was struggling to see improvements in her A-Level English class, until a few weeks with Leonie, which transformed her grades and confidence. Leonie tackles the toughest poetry and books with expertise, and also provided excellent feedback for writing coursework. I can't thank Leonie enough! She is a superb tutor, and I highly recommend for guaranteed progress.
