About Molly
I graduated last summer with a First in English and French, and I’m due to start an English MA at Oxbridge in autumn. 4+ years of experience leading sex education workshops for ages 11-18. Currently a teaching assistant in secondary schools for students with support needs.
By working as a teaching assistant, I have had plenty of experience with students who lack the tools or confidence to overcome difficulties in their writing and reading comprehension. Some pupils simply want to pass exams, and together we work to build a strategy for tackling tricky questions and fulfilling assessment criteria. The job has taught me to be patient, adaptable and respectful towards any accessibility requirements.
Meanwhile, my time in sexual health advocacy introduced me to teaching in the most delicate of circumstances. I have faced classrooms full of red-faced pupils too embarrassed to talk and been able to get most everyone involved by the end. Respect for each individual’s comfort level is paramount to my teaching philosophy and I can always adapt my lessons to accommodate chatterboxes, as much as those who would rather hide.

My lessons typically last 55 mins-1hr and are tailored to address areas of difficulty for each individual. Topics may include essays, creative and persuasive writing, textual and comparative analysis, reading comprehension, poetry, contexts, structuring a response and accuracy (grammar, spelling, punctuation).
The first lesson will be primarily diagnostic, to assess the student's strengths, weaknesses and goals. After that, we will work together on a recurring basis through a combination of past papers, close reading and writing tasks that should help tackle target areas and build confidence. If a student also needs help with a specific assignment, I am more than happy to integrate that into the lesson plan.
