About Alex
I’m Alex, a Computer Science graduate, and I keep lessons calm, structured and focused. Getting stuck is a normal part of learning to code, so I explain things step by step and questions are welcome at any point. Parents are welcome to sit in or ask for an update after any lesson.
I believe any idea can be turned into code. You don’t need to know everything before you start. You need to know how to look for what you’re missing, and to keep researching until you find it. That’s how I’ve built my own projects, and it’s the skill I most want my students to leave with.
I enjoy teaching as much as coding. I spent a summer volunteering as a coding mentor for children on a holiday programme, and watching someone get their first programme working is still the best part of the job. I’ve also taught more than 20 students, one-to-one and in groups.

I teach by getting you to write the code yourself. Each lesson starts with a short worked example, then you build something similar while I guide you with questions. When your code breaks, I give you time to find the bug first, then a hint, and I only step in fully if you're still stuck. That way you learn to debug on your own.
For programming, we start with the fundamentals in Python, Java, JavaScript or HTML and build up step by step. Once you're comfortable, we can build a full-stack web app together. Lessons suit anyone from complete beginners up to A-level Computer Science students.
I also teach maths up to GCSE, which I tutored for two years. We work through exam-style questions together and fix the gaps as we find them.
Lessons run from one to two hours, one-to-one, online or in person in North London.
I have a First in Computer Science from King's College London and an A in A-level Maths. I've taught coding to more than 20 students at a London learning centre.
