About Maya
Hi! I’m Maya, a passionate Geography tutor currently studying Global Humanitarian Studies at University College London (UCL) — one of the world’s leading universities. I’m on track to achieve a First or high 2:1, and my degree has deepened my understanding of how geography connects to global issues such as climate change, development, and humanitarian policy. At A-Level, I studied Graphic Design, Geography, Politics, and Business, achieving ABBC, along with an A in my EPQ. While my grades reflect a strong performance across a diverse range of subjects, it’s at university that I’ve truly built advanced knowledge and analytical skills, particularly in applying geographical concepts to real-world challenges. Outside of my degree, I founded PolicyLab, a business that runs educational workshops in schools across the UK, teaching students about public policy and social change in the context of GCSE and A-level geography. Through this experience, I discovered how much I enjoy helping others learn and engage with complex topics, especially when I see students gain confidence and curiosity in the process. I’m now bringing that same enthusiasm to tutoring, helping GCSE and A-Level Geography students build understanding, develop exam skills, and achieve their academic goals. My lessons are interactive, personalised, and designed to make geography both enjoyable and relevant to the world around us. In the future, I hope to move into consulting, but teaching remains something I genuinely love, it’s rewarding to inspire students and show how powerful geography can be in understanding and shaping the world

Teaching Techniques & Methodology My teaching style focuses on building deep understanding and exam confidence. I combine interactive discussions, visual resources (such as maps, case studies, and diagrams), and real-world examples to make geography engaging and relatable. I encourage active learning, asking students to explain concepts back to me, apply knowledge to new situations, and practise exam-style questions regularly. I also tailor each session to the individual student’s needs and learning style, identifying specific areas for improvement and developing targeted strategies for success. For GCSE students, I focus on mastering content and exam technique; for A-Level students, I prioritise analytical skills, critical thinking, and essay structure. Typical Lesson Length Most lessons last 60 minutes, which allows enough time to cover new content, consolidate previous material, and go through exam-style practice. However, I can adapt session length depending on the student’s needs — shorter sessions for focused revision or longer sessions for in-depth topic coverage. Qualifications & Experience I am currently studying Global Humanitarian Studies at University College London (UCL), one of the world’s top universities. I’m on track to achieve a First or high 2:1. My academic background gives me a strong foundation in both physical and human geography, as well as in applying geographical concepts to real-world humanitarian and environmental challenges. I have experience helping students with essay writing, case study analysis, and exam preparation. Who My Lessons Are For My tutoring is designed for students studying Geography from GCSE to A-Level. I work with a range of learners — from those aiming to secure top grades to those who need extra support and confidence in the subject. My goal is to help every student develop a genuine understanding and appreciation of geography, while achieving their academic goals.
