About Samantha

I'm Sam, 21, and a current university student in my final year. I've been tutoring since November and am currently teaching 4 students, 3 of which I teach in a group. My module choices at university have allowed me to do a range of filmmaking, analysis, book studies, TV production, creative writing and more. I apply the skills I've honed in essay planning, writing and analysis to my tutoring and have helped students clearly cover and understand topics and concepts they've found most difficult, including essay writing and covering AO's.

About the lesson

I currently tutor GCSE and A-Level students of varying levels and targets, basing my lessons around feedback from their teachers and them personally on what topics they're struggling with. At the start of our first lessons, I always take time to learn about my students' experiences and personal targets, then run through topics they and their teachers have mentioned, asking them to rate how they feel about them. I use this as a basis for planning future lessons. In the hour that we have set aside for tutoring, I begin with a starter activity to get ideas going before moving into the main task, typically involving textual analysis, essay question planning, or anything else appropriate to address the difficulties students are facing. After finishing with a plenary task, I'll do a recap of what was covered and ask students if it has helped, inform them of my plans for the next lesson and ask them if there is anything specific they wish to cover instead so I can plan for that. I have an easygoing approach, and as an online tutor am mindful of students' privacy and preferences when it comes to using microphones and cameras, though I will always keep these on myself in our sessions.

Details

My rates are fixed as I only do online tutoring to fit around people's schedules and COVID-19. Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours before the lesson is set to start, or I charge a cancellation fee of £12.50.
