About Alex-Paige

I am a professional psychology tutor with over five years’ experience teaching students across A-Level and undergraduate level, alongside my full-time work in behaviour change theory within medical communications. I hold a First Class Honours degree in neuropsychopharmacology from King’s College London and am also an examiner for A-Level Psychology, giving me an in-depth understanding of assessment standards, examiner expectations, and how to secure top grades.

Tutoring has always been a central part of my career. I run my own tutoring company alongside my professional role and have continued to grow this venture because I genuinely believe in widening access to education. I am particularly passionate about helping students who may feel disengaged, overwhelmed, or underserved by traditional teaching approaches.

My teaching philosophy is simple: learning should be meaningful, not memorised. Rather than teaching narrowly to a specification, I focus on helping students truly understand psychological concepts, apply them flexibly, and develop confidence in their thinking. This approach not only improves exam performance, but also builds long-term academic skills that transfer beyond a single curriculum.

Above all, I have a genuine passion for psychology as a subject and enjoy sharing that enthusiasm with my students. I aim to create supportive, structured, and intellectually engaging sessions tailored to each individual’s learning style and goals.

About the lesson

I teach online exclusively, using a highly interactive, theory-driven approach that prioritises understanding, application, and confidence rather than passive content delivery. My sessions are designed for students who want to genuinely learn psychology, not simply memorise material.

Every student begins with an initial assessment, where we explore existing strengths, areas of uncertainty, and specific pain points. This allows sessions to be fully tailored to individual needs, whether that involves strengthening foundational theory, improving essay technique, or developing higher-level evaluation and critical thinking skills. From there, we work collaboratively to target areas of difficulty in a supportive and structured way.

Lessons combine focused exploration of psychological theory with active discussion, real-world application, and exam or essay-based learning. I frequently draw on contemporary research, clinical and medical examples, and applied behaviour change principles to bring abstract concepts to life and demonstrate how psychology operates beyond the classroom.

A typical session may include:

- Clarifying and deepening understanding of key concepts

- Applying theory to unfamiliar scenarios or real-world contexts

- Reviewing and improving essay structure, argumentation, and use of evidence

- Analysing exam-style questions and common pitfalls

- Developing confidence in independent thinking and evaluation

I do not use pre-prepared PowerPoint slides. Sessions are interactive by design and centred around discussion, questioning, and application. This approach helps students move away from rote learning and towards flexible, transferable understanding. This is an essential skill for both examinations and further study.

Students should expect challenging but supportive sessions that adapt as they progress, with clear goals and a strong focus on meaningful learning outcomes.
