About Hannah
Originally from the Highlands, I am now based in Glasgow and work as a theatre director alongside my passion for teaching. I began teaching at a young age due to the lack of performing arts provision in my area spending three years as the director of a free youth drama club. I facilitated weekly drama workshops for pupils aged 11-18 and directed multiple shows a year, collaborating with visiting practitioners in physical theatre and dance to provide the club with varied creative experiences. I became skilled in planning and delivering fun and engaging sessions to large groups of young people of various skill levels, leading to the club becoming very popular during my tenure and attracting as many as forty pupils per session. I have also benefitted from guidance and training from experienced educators. Under the mentorship of Amanda Luscombe-Smith, who has been delivering LAMDA classes and facilitating youth theatres in the Highlands for more than twenty years, I learned to work closely with individual students to develop their acting skills following the LAMDA curriculum and preparing them for their exams. In my capacity as assistant for the Grade 1-5 Acting classes, I worked with students to build comprehension of the text, develop understanding of character, and create a physical language for each of their exam monologues. I also delivered a large portion of the theory element of the course, assisted in directing showcases, and generally supported the students throughout the term.
Throughout my university education, I was trained in applied theatre techniques which built my understanding of both the theory and practice of ethical and effective arts training. I also trained in contemporary directing and devising techniques, producing work both in and outside university as a director and performer. Since graduating, I have been working as a freelance theatre maker, working with Scottish Youth Theatre, Gateway New Writing Festival and others as a director and dramaturg.
I have worked with numerous neurodivergent students, and have many people in my own life with autism/ADHD, so I know that every person needs their own unique approach to a subject, and I will work with you to find yours.
Outside of teaching, I love cooking, knitting, and playing the piano badly.

I am a theatre director and facilitator based in Glasgow who has extensive experience as an English and Drama tutor. I offer one-to-one sessions which can be used to develop your own practice as a performer or theatre maker, or curriculum-based and working towards an exam. I teach secondary students up to A-Level or Scottish Advanced Higher, and also provide mentoring for students at undergraduate university level. Lessons are 50-60 minutes long and hosted on Google Meets.
I work closely with students to identify weak spots and build a learning plan which suits your needs. I have experience working with neurodivergent students, helping them to express themselves in the format required of them by specific exam boards or curricula. I am skilled in responding to individual learning styles and identifying gaps in knowledge. I have always been patient and understanding, and am able to focus on increasing the student’s understanding and use of techniques in order to build their confidence.
I am a graduate of Manchester School of Theatre, having received a first class BA(Hons) in Drama and Contemporary Performance. I also hold an MLitt (Distinction) in Theatre Studies from the University of Glasgow, LAMDA Grade 8 (Gold) Acting & an A in Higher Drama. I was the director of Millburn Academy Drama Club, and assistant tutor for LAMDA Grades 1-5 Acting classes at Eden Court Theatre, both from 2018-2020. I have been a freelance private tutor teaching English and Drama since 2023, working with esteemed tutoring companies including Tutorful, Clever Tutors, and Edumentors. I have previously provided tutoring for Drama for GCSE (AQA and Edexcel), International GCSE (Cambridge) and Scottish National 5 & Higher. Previous students have seen a marked improvement in exam results and confidence, particularly with written elements of assessment.
