About Tom
After achieving 11 As at GCSE, and 4 As/As at A-level, I was awarded a full bursary by the Moritz-Heyman foundation to study English Language and Literature at St. Catherine’s College, Oxford. Whilst there I received a further scholarship for academic excellence, as well as awards for services to Drama.
Whilst studying, I continued the GCSE tutoring I had begun at A-level, and upon graduation, I expanded into A-level tuition, whilst working for the University. Since 2017 I have been working full time tutoring students in GCSE and A-level exams, as well as assisting students with their UCAS applications, Oxbridge Admissions tests, and 11+ exams.
I prefer to teach students in 1.5 or 2hr sessions (depending on their age) with a five-minute exercise break halfway through. Lessons will be thoroughly prepared and tailored to a student's individual needs - I will provide a brief report (available to parents) after each lesson - and can offer homework, and/or further reading for pupils at your' request.
I find that the best results come from getting to know a student and their learning style over a long period of time. I do however offer revision, and essay writing sessions for pupils looking to brush up in the weeks before their examinations.

Tom tutored my 15-year-old son ahead of his English GCSE exams this year and he was a total inspiration. My son had always liked English but struggled with low confidence and never did as well as he liked. With Tom's patience and his wonderful way of explaining difficult concepts my son's passion for English grew, and he would always look forward to their lessons. My son just went into his exams with confidence and is taking it at A level now. Tom was always on time for lessons and really flexible with times if we ever needed to move. We will definitely be continuing next year!
