About Nolan

I've tutored college students for over a year in Organic Chemistry I and II, Physics, and various levels of Spanish. I understand how to create an active learning environment and how to adjust my lessons to the learning strategies of my students.

I graduated with degrees in Spanish and Biochemistry along with distinction: Magna Cum Laude (3.75 GPA). I earned the honor of top 2% in my class through my junior year

Other than experience and academic success, I understand what constitues good study habits. I have great people skills and love watching others succeed.

I charged afforable services of only $25.00/hour with the first lesson free.

I am willing to work in person or online, but firmly believe my lessons are more productive and effective in person.

As an aspiring medical student, I love meeting and helping others succeed. Seeing my tutees say "AHA!" after they spend significant time and effort trying to conceptualize or understand a new concept is very rewarding.

I also love the subjects I teach and broadening my understanding of them with every revisit.

While at Iowa State. I wanted to revisit courses to further my understanding and prepare for the MCAT.

I worked as a tutor for Iowa State in various levels of Organic Chemistry, Spanish, and Physics. I qualified to tutor a wide range of other courses but only pursued those listed above as they were in high demand.

I graduated with degrees in Biochemistry and Spanish along with distinction: Magna Cum Laude (3.75 GPA)

About the lesson

Prior to working with a new student I'll send them a welcoming email, describe myself, ask them questions about themselves and what they need the most help with, and conclude with a schedule of available times for our first lesson.

The first lesson is free where the tutee sees if he/she would like to pursue future lessons. I also obtain more information about the individual and how he/she would like our lessons to be structured.

College students and troubled youth when I worked at a group home.

Make sure the teacher is passionate and is willing to assist you in every way, shape, or form. Don't adjust your learning strategies to a teacher. Find a teacher who will adjust his/her lessons to your strengths and most effective learning strategies.

Recently, my girlfriend was struggling with her chemistry course. I explained to her how I would approach and understand the problem being asked. She was thrilled after taking my advice because she was able to think about the material from a new perspective that enabled her to understand the problem.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should asks themselves what they've done to try and understand the problem and the steps they've took to comprehend what is being asked.

A teacher is supposed to push the student, not be constant fallback when the going gets tough. Struggle is what allows for learning. If a student hasn't spent sufficient time nor effort on what is being asked, they shouldn't ask teachers to help them.

Us teachers are here to push and guide. Not solve your problems and make life too easy for you. If we choose not to push you, we will hurt you in the long run.
