About Ian
I love word play! It's what helped me understand and succeed in Foreign Languages in college. I may have majored in Spanish, but I also taught myself Italian, Portuguese and French along with some American Sign Language. To me, language isn't about writing and rewriting conjugations; it's about finding ways of understanding and remembering that connect with students so that language learning isn't so dry and boring. I'm an energetic person and that really comes out when I'm tutoring.
When I was in highschool, I found that Spanish really made sense to me. In college, I signed up to live in a dormitory where everyone helped tutor the atheletes at our school. That was my intro into tutoring.
I was a Spanish major at the University of Mary Washington and I graduated near the top of my class.

In terms of working with new students, my goal is to not just start working on their homework or studying for the next test. I want to know where students are in terms of the subject so that we can start catching up if they are falling behind.
I have mainly worked with students who were middle school aged and up as these are the students who are usually studying foreign language. However, I have also worked with younger kids in a Summer camp environment.
