About Laura

Hi! My name is Laura, and I’m available for tutoring! I graduated from Fordham University with a degree in English and history, and I'm now a private teacher and tutor in Dallas and virtually!

During the day, I teach homeschool students, and after school, I work with kids in grades 1-6 who have fallen behind in math, reading, and writing, or who want to get ahead! I specialize in reading and writing instruction, including early literacy and dyslexia. I use a phonics-based approach that is rooted in the science of reading, and emphasize consistency and repetition to improve my students’ decoding skills as quickly as possible.

I've also created full homeschool curricula for students ranging from age 6 to 17. These enrichment and homeschool curriculums enable me to tailor lessons to each child, and create completely customized curriculum.

As a tutor, I am patient and encouraging, and I work to build my students' confidence as well as their skills. I use creative methods and games to engage my students, so they enjoy themselves while learning and improving!

I'm passionate about helping my clients achieve their goals through engaging, creative methods that keep their attention and focus, and get them excited about learning. I don't want our session to be just another hour of schoolwork, but instead, a time when they enjoy themselves and have some fun while improving their skills, growing in their difficult subjects, and enriching their academics without even realizing it!

About the lesson

First, I like to have a conversation with a parent or guardian, and learn about what subjects or areas their child struggles with or needs more attention in. Then, I have a preliminary session with the child, to gague for myself what their strengths and weaknesses are. From there, I work with the family to determine a schedule and plan for tutoring. I develop a plan for the child that includes outside-the-box ways of learning - for example, to improve handwriting, instead of just copying letters over and over, we might do some fine motor activities. Or, for vocabulary and reading, we might play a word game.

Ms. Laura is an educational tour-de-force! Our son Maxwell was falling behind in 5th grade, struggling to stay on reading level. After just a few weeks, we saw improvement in both Max’s grades, and his reading comprehension! Having seen his brother’s improvement, we enrolled our youngest, Quentin, in Ms. Laura’s early literacy lessons! Quentin is just 4 years old, but he’s started really enjoying Frog and Toad. I would absolutely recommend Ms. Laura for any reading problems your children may be facing!
