About Beth
Teaching is my passion. I love being able to present material in a way that is helpful for a student who is struggling with a new concept, and I especially love the light bulb moments when a student grasps a new concept. My background is in elementary education, in which I hold both a Bachelor's and a Master's degree. I taught both second and sixth grades as a classroom teacher for many years and also have been an educational consultant, a testing administrator and a tutor for elementary and middle school students over the years.
Although I am comfortable tutoring elementary and middle school students in most academic subject areas, my current passion is working with students with dyslexia and other language based learning differences. Two of my sons have dyslexia and dysgraphia, and in order to help them, I took a 60 hour Orton-Gillingham course. I have additional Executive Functioning Training and training in Visualizing and Verbalizing. In addition, I attended and presented at the International Dyslexia Association Conference held in Baltimore. I have been tutoring my own sons as well as several other students with language based learning differences in reading and writing for the past few years.
I offer over 28 years of teaching experience of students of all ages, a passion for children and for learning, and the heart of a mother who understands what it's like to have a child who struggles academically.
