About Olivia
Hi! My name is Olivia and I'm a 21 year old college graduate that will be attending Unviversity at Buffalo's School of Dental Medicine this August. I have a Bachelor's of Science in Biological Sciences, graduated summa cum laude, was in Unviersity at Buffalo's Honors College, graduated a year early, and recieved my Bachelor's on a full-ride academic scholarship. When I was in high school, I scored a 33 on the ACT, placing myself in the top 1% of test takers and I recently scored a 24 on the Dental Admissions Test (DAT), again placing in the top 1%.
I absolutely love learning, science, and test taking. I have worked with many different organizations, like UBSTEP and 716Squash, in the Buffalo area tutoring students ranging from 5th to 8th grade. Subjects included common core math, English, science, and overall academic improvement for the students.
I cannot even begin to describe the feeling of happiness I get when I can help a student solve a difficult problem or understand a tricky concept. In the three years I have been tutoring on a volunteer basis, these moments bring me so much joy. That is the precise reason I have chosen to continue this line of work and hopefully have a positive impact on many more students eager to learn and improve their academics.
As a student in University at Buffalo's Honors College, we were placed with a community partner our second semester at the unviersity. After indicating that I was interested in helping local students, I was placed with UB STEP (Science and Technology Entry Program). There, I spent the semester greating lesson plans and working with students on both fun science projects and their homework. This then led me to continue tutoring after this placement ended at 716Squash, a program that combines atheltics and academics for students at certain Buffalo Public Schools.
I have a Bachelor's of Science in Biological Sciences from the University at Buffalo. I have taken four semesters of chemistry, six semesters of core biological/life sciences, two semesters of physics, and many other English, public health, biochemistry, genetics classes. Essentially, I feel comfortable mainly in science courses of any level - ranging from basics in elementrary school to AP level courses. I also scored in the 99th percentile on the ACT and SAT when I was in 11th grade and have lots of tips and information for students interested in test preparation. Finally, I have over three years of tutoring experience for multiple organizations in the Buffalo area - I look forward to using that knowledge to tutor students online.

I always like to first talk to the student about their interests outside of school. This can range from sports, activities with family, pets, musical theatre, etc. Then, I like to use this information to create fun and interactive lesson plans that combine the student's outside interests with the topics at hand. I have learned that creating analogies students can easily remember is one of the best ways for them to learn and recall information. Additionally, I like to speak with the parents and/or teachers of the student to find out what their particular goals for the student are during our lessons.
I have worked mostly with students in grades 5-8 that attended public schools and followed Common Core curriculum. However, I feel comfortable working with students of all ages and all backgrounds!

Details
I am very flexible with pricing. It depends on how much research into the topic I need to put in before I feel comfortable teaching the subject, what grade level the student is, and if the lesson is test-prep or subject based. In general, I charge $25-30 per hour - however, I really do enjoy working with students and am more than willing to negotiate cost!
