About Richard

I had the incredible opportunity to display a body of my work at the Nashville International Airport and someone contacted me asking if I gave photography lessons. It really wasn’t something I had considered before but was encouraged by friends to pass along what I had learned the hard way, by trial and error, saving those interested in doing the type of photography I do time and headaches. I found that I truly enjoy helping fellow photographers discover their next steps along their photography path.

I am self-taught and I believe this gives me a unique view of photography. Since 2012 I have been studying other photographers and painters work and applying what appeals to me from most from each, so I am not tied down to any one method.

About the lesson

For me it is vital to know where the person is in their photography journey. What they feel their strengths are and where they need help. What they enjoy shooting and what their goals are. So the first step getting together and learning about them and looking over some of their work so I can design a personalized program specifically for their needs that will take them to the next level.

These may sound simple but,

1.    Find someone who loves photography.

2.    Like their photography.

3.    Find a teacher that is there for you. To help you. Not someone there for themselves.

I recently took a scouting trip to Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area in Tennessee. I love staying at a place for several days and exploring it primarily to find motifs that I can return to when I am back focusing on photography. Most of the time I only take reference or test shots so I can get a feel for angle and see where the sun will rise, but really don't expect to get much. One morning thought I drove almost an hour out to Honey Creek Overlook and there was a wonderful fog draped over the rolling mountains and I wound up spending a couple of hour in that one spot as the fog moved through the small valley. I definitely found a wonderful spot to spend a morning of photography.

2.    What am I struggling with or what areas can use improvement?

3.    Where would I like my photography to be in six months and a year?

4.    What do I love to photograph more than anything?

5.    How much time and effort can I devote to photography?

Details

I charge $65.00 per 1hour session but I give a 10% discount if you pay for 4-1 hour sessions at upfront. I also offer special deals to my students when I am on photography trips.
