About Clifford

I have taught traditional (film) and digital photography for over 10 years, from school age to adult. I am most interested in how I can help you to become the photographer you want to be!

I love capturing moments, and anticipating what makes them happen- when we can freeze that moment, it allows us to savor and observe what is happening. I meet lots of new people, and so many personalities and styles!

I love helping people achieve above and beyond their goals- being a part of their journey, and their hard work makes it happen.

I started teaching at Evanston art center in Illinois, and a few of the community colleges in the surrounding area. I knew that it was for me, the way people are drawn to images, and I loved helping them overcome the technical aspects so they could achieve their goals. I moved back to the Jacksonville area in 2005, and taught at FSCJ as an adjunct professor, teaching traditional (film-based) and digital photography. I now teach 2D art at a local middle school, and love their energy and curiosity!

I have taught at the college level for 7 years, and love experimental photography- my Masters degree thesis was a driveable pinhole camera!

About the lesson

What do you want to learn, what are your goals for your photography? What is something you don't understand yet, but want to practice excelling at? These are some of the questions that will help me guide you to achieving your potential, and with your perseverance you will get there!

I have taught children and adults, students with special needs (both mentally and physically), and my favorite student is the one who wants to work hard and lets nothing stop them from their dreams.

What kind of work would you like to create? Find someone who will challenge you, create a goal for yourself and ask them to guide you and help you be achieve that goal.

I went out for a night shoot, and I was feeling lousy, my gear wasn't working right, and it was drizzling. I went out anyway, and captured some great images that would not have existed if I hadn't gone! I also love photographing events; a (surprise) engagement party this past New Year's Eve was an amazing and special time, with lots of personalities and types of people. There were spontaneous moments that make my job so much fun!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What is is you wish to achieve with your work? There is not a single right answer for all, your question is where you begin; Do you want to learn the technical aspects of the camera, or learn lighting techniques that make your work stand out? Maybe you're not sure- look around and find some images that you are drawn to or a photographer whose work you admire. The clearer your question, the quicker you'll get started on your journey!
