About Kat

I have been in the photo business since 2002. Firelite Foto LLC has been in operation the entire time.

As a photographer, I believe it is my duty to capture everything that my customer is looking for. Every minute detail is critical to capturing the ENTIRE memory and the ENTIRE feel of the time and place being remembered. Colour, light, feeling, emotion... it is all important. Whether my subject is a new born child just entering his or her journey, a woman and man entering their lives together, or the smile in the eyes of a beloved pet... my job is to capture that moment and save it for generations to come.

Photoshop can be looked at in a very similar way. Every detail of a design needs to be scrutinized to deliver the EXACT message the customer is trying to convey. My job is to replicate that design to a "T".

In teaching both of these skills I promise to do my best to help you see these same views and want to deliver the same results.

I have worked in both the studio setting as well a "real life" setting. I worked for 2 local newspapers - The Wrightstown Area Spirit and Oshkosh Northwestern. I also worked as a photographer and graphic artist for the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh for several years.

I'm familiar with both the Nikon and Canon line of DSLR systems. I owned at one time an Olypus DLSR as well However that was over 10yrs ago. I currently own a Canon Mirrorless system - EOS RP, both Sigma EX and Canon L series lenses and Canon EX TTL flash system. I also have a full portable studio background and strobe set up.

As for editing - I use Adobe's Creative Cloud Photographer package. I have Lighroom Classic, Lightroom CC, and Photoshop. I work on a MacBook Pro and an iPad Pro.

I would love to be able to teach you my passion - photography. I've been doing this for what seems like my whole life. Passing this along to someone else who actually wants to learn, would be my pleasure!

Teaching students to love what they do is the best part of my job. Seeing the smiles on their faces once they've mastered their cameras is such an amazing feeling!!

I used to teach music lessons in college. I also studied music education. Teaching photography comes natural.

About the lesson

Step one: Find out their strengths and weaknesses

Step two: work from the ground up with one strength and one weakness each lesson - so as to not feel overwhelmed and to not get discouraged.

Step three: put it all together, culminating in a final "project" - a book that shows the growth of the student from day one to day XX

I've worked with everyone from the complete beginner who has never held a camera to people who've been in photography for years but still have questions in lightroom and photoshop or just new settings on their camera or are still struggling with the exposure triagle.

Make sure you match personalities... you won't learn from someone with a personality that clashes with yours.

Take the time to do an email exchange or zoom video call before you set up your actual lesson contract. Clashing persalities will hinder your lessons.

EAA has always been a fun event to photograph. I also really enjoy the ever enjoyable sunrise!

Lessons are $25 per lesson (unlimited time) for photography and $50 per lesson for Lightroom/Photoshop for beginners

Lessons for studio lighting is $50 per lesson
