About Robert

I have been a film photographer since the 1980s, owned a comic book store in the 90's, and started teaching visual art in 2003.

I can teach a broad range of visual arts, but I am especially well-suited to teaching analog photography; any genre or technique. I also developed coursework for teaching comics creation.

Teaching has become a way for me to deepen my own connection to the material, returning to the process, and fueling my own creative drive

I was chosen for the first cohort of a new residential teaching program in partnership with the University of Maryland in 2002. I started teaching at a Maryland public high school in 2003 and taught there until 2016.

I have a degree in psychology, extensive coursework in visual and performing, certification from the state of Maryland to teach all the visual arts, and all the social studies, and I have about 40 of experience in analog photography.

About the lesson

I like to develop a plan based on the individual students goals and current skill set. We can structure a program that gives the opportunity to acquire the knowledge, skills, and approach to do the things that they want to.

I have worked with thousands of teenage students with different levels of experience and aptitude. I have also worked with adult learners on an individual basis.
