About Maria
A veteran of the fitness industry since 1987, she has coached numerous individuals in preparing for various events from triathlons and the California AIDS Life Cycle to the infamous the Death Ride (which she has completed multiple times herself!). After serving as the Health and Fitness Director at both the Oakland and Berkeley Y's for over a decade, Maria recently made a change in her career to focus full time on teaching Group Exercise classes and working with private clients.
Maria's personal training skills have kept pace over two decades. She enjoys coaching and helping her students and clients navigate their health and wellness goals. She earned her M.A. in Sport Psychology from JFK University and her certifications include: ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist, ACSM/NSPAPPH Physical Activity in Public Health Specialist, Wellcoaches Certified Health & Wellness Coach, among others. In addition to her experience tailoring exercise regimes for beginners, people with back, shoulder, knee, and hip injuries, chronic fatigue syndrome and other illnesses, she incorporates mindfulness skills into cardiovascular, muscular and mobility training. Maria's training programs create a supportive and challenging environment that fosters growth in fitness, personal spirit and confidence to achieve one's health and wellness dreams.
