About Dr Taquan

As a science educator with 25+years experience, I know that there is no such thing as an average student, with smart ones above and not-so-smart ones below that average group. I honor every student as different; noting that the only true commonality is variance. Therefore, I teach math like a language. It is a language. Foundational development is important. I gear my instruction to how our brains work. Brain networks are sparked to work through each phase of development. And THAT is so cool to me.

I enjoy seeing students grow by leaps and bounds. But, I most enjoy attempting to grow a student by two years within six months. This is always a challenge for me. And, I embrace that challenge.

I hold a bachelor's degree and a CA Credential in physics. I taught science and math for 15 years, before becoming an administrator. I have trained K-12 teachers for the past 15 years. I have also trained parents. This allows me to keep them in the loop with how to best support their child.

About the lesson

I assess students based on what every student should know. I treat them like mathematicians from the start. I instill confidence and go at a pace that is native to their abilities, while challenging them to persist. Usually, after two sessions, I can share their strengths and challenges. With that transparency, we can then begin to improve.
