About Emma

I work with younger kids [elementary age] and older kids [middle/high school] my philosophy is that learning should be fun. In the summer I like to work with the kids ouside as much as possible. Let them run around and have fun but still be learning. I do things like number obstacle courses to learn numbers, addition, subtration, and multiplication and division. For older kids I find meeting outside of the house works best. If we meet at a starbucks or panera there's less stress. And it gives them a chance to feel more adult, like a college student. Which can be incredibly helpful in a lot of cases, most kids have confidence issues with subjects that don't come naturally. So building their confidence in themselves is always a priority.

I am in college at Frostburg State University, where I am about to start my senior year. I am getting a degree in social science and a minor in animal behavior.

About the lesson

Prior to the first meeting I like to get an idea of what they need help with. A syllabus from a previous class is always helpful. From there I will draw up a preliminary plan and discuss it with the student at the first meeting. If the plan is good and works for the student then that is how we will continue.

I have worked mostly within my community. I have tutored high schoolers, middle schoolers, and elemntary schoolers. Most of my expierence is with younger kids.

Shop around. Don't settle for the first tutor you find. Find someone who fits you and your learning style.

My standard is $20 an hour. An extra $10 an hour if I'm working with more than one child at a time, per child.
