About Josh

I am passionate about teaching students mathematics and problem-solving skills so that they can apply these skills in their everyday life.

I am currently a Math Intervention Specialist in Naperville CUSD 203 where I apply targeted math intervention to K-5 students. Before this role, I taught 5th grade for five years and one year of 3rd grade, all in Naperville CUSD 203.

I have two Masters Degrees, one from the University of Illinois as a Technology Integration Specialist, and another from North Central College in Educational Leadership. My undergraduate degree is also from North Central College in Elementary Education, with an endorsement in mathematics.

About the lesson

I firmly believe the most important fundamental part of teaching is relationships. The first thing I try to do with all students is to develop positive relationships. Without a positive relationship, learning will not occur. After that is established, I begin by gathering baseline data to see what students know and what kind of misconceptions they might have. Then, targetted instruction is provided to help the student through the learning progression of mathematics, with progress monitoring and benchmark assessments along the way to track student growth.
