About Dorreen
I have over 10 years of teaching experience (PA K-5 elementary certification), and more than 16 years in parenting. I am very patient and meet my students where they are. We celebrate the small acomplishments while working toward our bigger goals. I have taught grades K-5 in Social and Emotional skills, grades 1-3 in ELA and Math, and grades 4 -8 in Reading, Writing, and Social Studies. I have experience in teaching in large urban educational settings (currently) as well as suburban settings. (concealed information)
I started teaching by volunteering first while working in technology sales. I wanted to teach children technology skills so I returned to school to obtain my teaching certification.
I have over 10 years of teaching in large urban schools setting. I also have adult training experience where I develop and teach professional development sessions in schools and district wide. My backgraound ranges from corporate America to American schools. I have just completed my course work to become a school principal.

When working with a student for the first time I like to get to know the student by sharing some of the things I like to do or just things in general about myself, such as family traditions, favorite foods, etc. to start building connections. I want my students to feel confortable and understand that we are a team working together to meet their goals.
I have worked with students of all ages and a variety of abilities, including adult learners.
My advice when looking to find a mentor/tutor/teacher or anyone you will have to work closely with is to make sure you feel comfortable with that person. Remember that person is there to help you be successful, you have to be able to talk to and work through the course work together. Also, make sure the person is flexible in their time.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should ask themselves, "Am I ready for a tutor?" That is a question about effort. Are you ready to put forth the effort needed to be successful? The student needs to make sure they are going to do what is necessary to achieve the goal on their end. Teachers do not want to struggle with unwilling students.
