About Laura

I am a Certified English as a Second Language teacher with 20+ years of teaching experience working with ESL students.This gives me the added experience, knowledge, understanding and skills that newer ESL teachers do not have to successfully tutor ESL students from every current level of English from very beginner students to advanced students.

I have a passion for changing my student’s lives by providing excellence in English language instruction. I have a strong belief that every student has the ability to learn and make progress in their ability to communicate confidently in the English speaking world.

I have been teaching ESL students since I graduated from college in 2000.

I have earned:

Master of Arts: Teaching English as a Second Language

Teacher of English to Speakers of Other Languages/ Teacher of English as a Foreign Language Certification

Foundation in Teaching English as a Second Language Online Certification

About the lesson

I will speak with the student to listen to their personal goals for their English tutoring lessons. I will ask the student any English language skills that they are hoping to improve in their tutoring sessions.

Before I start English tutoring classes with a new student, I always have the student take an English assessment to see what they are needing to work on and to see how much progress they are making during their English tutoring program.

I have worked with every type of student.

I have worked with all different language and culture backgrounds.

I have worked with Beginner adults who have no or little experience with English. have worked with professionals who are interested in learning higher vocabulary and pronunciation skills for their careers.

I have experience successfully teaching all ages from adults , children of all ages and teens.

I have been teaching ESL for more than 20 years as a classroom teacher and a 1:1 and small group tutor.

I know what every student needs to start making the best progress in their own English language needs and goals.

I would tell them to make sure that they are hiring a very experienced professional ESL teacher.

I would also tell them to be sure that they are hiring an ESL teacher who is patient, understanding and they will have a good relationship with the teacher

I taught a beginner level English as a Second Language student the material for the Citizenship Test and she passed the exam .

She is now an American 🇺🇸 citizen because of my teaching her!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I would tell a student that they should feel comfortable talking to their teacher about their feelings and their needs.

The teacher should make them feel comfortable, supported and confident they can help them . If they don’t feel comfortable speaking with the teacher about their needs or concerns then don’t hire them.
