About Steven
For the past 43 years, the mission of the National Karate Jujitsu Union (NKJU) is to promote Classical Budo while being open-minded and embracing any fighting art that brings a sense of enhanced physical and psychological growth to today's students and instructors; to produce a generation of warriors who can believe, succeed and achieve in their daily lives.
I am the President and Director of the National Karate Jujitsu Union. I assumed this role after my Sensei (instructor) wanted to retire from the martial arts in May 2016. I enjoy the physical and mental challenge of the art and I especially enjoy watching students exceed a potential they never knew existed.
I grew up in the martial arts. I ran away from home when I was 14 years old and never returned. (special circumstances).
I have a B.S. degree in Health Care Management; Retired from the military in 2003, and have been an avid student and instructor of martial arts for 43 years.
I am an 8th degree black belt in Kuniba-Ha (Coo-knee-bah-hah) Shito-ryu (She-toe-Yu) Karate-Do (Kah-rah-tay-doe).

Find out their motivation for wanting to begin learning the martial arts. If I approve the student is a candidate to begin learning Karate, I begin with the basics and dwell on those basics. It is important for the student to develop a strong foundation. This will allow him or her to continue in an upward momentum. Building confidence, self-esteem, enhanced personality, improve home-life, more focused in school and at home; Just an all-around better person.
All types: Low to high income, all ethnicities, all levels of education, oppositional defiant (ODD), obsessive compulsive (OCD), attention deficit (ADD), attention deficit hyperactivity (ADHD), depressive, suicidal, etc. Young students (age 5) to elderly, and students of all body types.
Invest in the martial arts only if you are a serious candidate. It takes time, dedication, commitment, sweat, and serious attention to detail. I teach a traditional Japanese-based system.

Details
You provide the space for training. Can be your home, garage, gym, backyard, etc., any place that is comfortable for you. I am available for lessons Monday through Thursday, after I get off work (3:30 pm). I work in Bethesda, MD.
One-on-one lessons: $50.00 per hour
Two to five students: $55.00 per hour
Six to ten students: $60.00 per hour
Eleven to fifteen students: $65.00 per hour
