Jill is an exceptional educator. I had her as a teacher for multiple classes and each time she reignited my passion for history. From her methods to her cheerful disposition, Jill made learning fun and memorable. I always looked forward to the next lesson!

Jill Freeland is still (18 years later!) my favorite teacher. She has a way of drawing each student out and making history appeal to them. You're not afraid to try and be wrong, because Jill is so encouraging and creates a safe space for learning. She is a remarkable teacher, and I just wish everyone could have the experience I had in the history courses I took with her.

Jill was one of the most incredible educators I have ever worked with- passionate, patient, and so dedicated to her students. She is the reason I became a history major in college after taking her history classes in high school. She expects her students to develop their fullest potential while guiding them every step of the way in an engaging and collaborative manner. I can't speak highly enough of her professionalism and teaching skills.

Jill is such a kind and informative teacher. She always ensured to articulate concepts in a way that was relatable to students. Years after taking her courses I still recall so much of the information she taught me because of the way she delivered it with so much passion and insight.

Jill makes history come alive! I had the good fortune of studying the 1960’s with Jill, and consider that course to be one of my favorites. She is engaging, motivating, and incredibly knowledgeable. Having enjoyed her class so much, in college I decided to take an advanced elective on the literature of the 1960’s. I found that my college course paled in comparison to Jill’s course. She is a wonderful educator!

Jill is passionate about the story telling that is human history. She loves to bring stories to life and put them into context so that we can understand how the events of the past created the world we live in today. While I had Jill for history, she helped me see the cross over between history and other academic topics. I loved every class I had with her. Though the topics varied widely from an AP European history course to an interdisciplinary class on the history and literature of New York City. Every time, she was fun to learn with!

She is an AMAZING teacher that really encourages you to see the full picture of history. She taught us to look at the “why”. History taught by Jill was not simply memorization- it was delving in a certain time and looking into as many factors as possible to see why something was happening at that point in time.

Besides her amazing teaching skills she is incredibly devoted. My freshman year of college I wanted to take a senior level class. The professor refused so I asked Jill to speak to him and after their conversation I was allowed in the class. I was the only student to receive an A in that class!
