About Devyn
With 10+ years’ experience as a gymnast (Junior Olympic Program, progressing to Level 10), many remarkable coaches poured wisdom into me.
I have been teaching students age 18 months to 15 years for a total 7 years.
Not only do my students feel valued, celebrated, and understood... but completely safe and successful.
Whether the goal for the student is to develop a love for fitness or master skills to progress, I am infinitely positive that I can help each student reach those goals.
I have attended multiple USAG Conferences, am SafeSport Certified, managed a Gymnastics Facilily, and have experience coaching Competitve Xcel Gymnastics.
I choreograph gymnastics floor routines (with most routines winning 1st place at competitions including State Meets).
When I was only 14 years old and a competitive gymnast, I would assist older coaches with teaching classes.
I continued to coach until age 19 (when I left for college).
After a corporate job and some time to think about my passions, I returned to the gym to do what I love most - help children grow in every good way.
My entire life has been submerged in this sport. I competed for 10+ years as a Junior Olympic gymnast and have been coaching for over 7 years.
I have developed training processes myself for the Facility I managed, and am completely aware of all best teaching practices due to attending several USAG & Business Owner’s Conferences (Regional Congresses, National Congress, and Summits).

First, I request information from the parent regarding the student’s age, experience in sports as well as gymnastics (if any), special requests, ultimate goals, and schedule availability.
Once we meet, I can assess the student on fundamental movements and determine the path we will take to move towards accomplishing the student’s goals.
I typically meet weekly with students for 30 minute sessions, where the students are invited to arrive early (5 minutes) to stretch.
After each session, I spend 5 minutes talking with the parent to discuss the student’s accomplishments, etc.
I suggest at-home stretching and conditioning (that is safe) when necessary to promote a healthier progression of skills for the student.
I have worked with toddlers through high school students, all being girls.
I have worked with toddlers through middle school students (boys - specifically Ninja training).
I have worked with students that require special assistance - as in those with special needs. Those students were diagnosed with ADHD, Sensory Processing Disorders, Down Syndrome, and Autism (several degrees on both sides of the spectrum).
Decide whether or not you’d like to continue your lessons after you complete the first session. You’re allowed to say “we are not a great fit for each other”.
Keep in mind that the point of learning and growing and living is to enjoy yourself. If you are not having a good time, consider why you are wanting to learn gymnastics.
Safety should be the top priority for the coach. You should never be alone with a coach, and the coach should talk openly with the parent about appropriate touch and speech so that everyone understands how you should and should not be treated.
A coach that values healthy progression over quick progression is best. Although you might want to get certain skills quickly, if your body and mind aren’t prepared... you will most likely get or become injured.
One of my beloved students joined the Xcel Team Program at age 5 (I coached her from age 18 months up until her making the team).
She gives me a hug every time she is at practice when I walk out on the floor.
My heart just melts to know that she is happy and she still appreciates our relationship - because it can be bittersweet sometimes to see my students move on to the next chapter in their book.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
1.) Why do I want to do this?
2.) What am I hoping to achieve?
3.) How do I typically receive feedback in the best way?
4.) How often do I move (exercise, stretch, play, climb, run, etc.)?
5.) What time of day am I at my best to learn and practice physical activities?
6.) Do I have any special needs that my coach must know about in order for everyone involved to be safe and feel understood?
7.) Is this person someone I can trust with my well-being, considering their view-points, experience, values, and practices?
