About Michael

My philosophy of education is to help students learn how to learn. Whether you want to stay ahead in a challenging biology class or you don't know how to get started on an essay, I make sure to share effective learning techniques so that you can master the material and become more confident in your learning abilities.

I enjoy equipping students with learning skills that they can utilize to get the grades they want in challenging classes. I know how it feels to be intimidated by a science class or dumbfounded at how to start writing an essay, but mastery of some fundamental principles of learning help lay a foundation for excellence.

I have 4 years of tutoring experience. My undergraduate degree is in philosophy, and I double minored in history and psychology. I was an Honors College student; I graduated summa cum laude with a GPA of 3.96; and I received the President's Award, Outstanding Student in Philosophy, among other awards.

I tutor writing at the highschool and college levels, for any class. I tutored writing for 3 years at my university, and I gained proficiency in writing because most of my classes required extensive writing – ranging from 1-page summaries to 3,000-word research papers. As a tutor, I teach a range of fundamental processes that have been so helpful to me: big-picture techniques such as how to create an outline down to detail-oriented techniques that help the student's writing be clear and grammatically correct.

I tutor biology at the highschool level, as well as college-level "introductory biology" for non-science majors. After I took the introductory biology class at my university, I extensively tutored that class every semester for 2 years. I have had a life-long interest in life science – as a teenager, I volunteered to feed and care for reptiles and amphibians, I was a counselor-in-training for children’s nature camps, and I participated in field expeditions with my state's herpetological society. At my university, I was a member of the Alpha Epsilon Delta (the pre-med club) and the Biology Club.

Grammar lessons offered by Michael are tailored to each student's needs and level. Lessons can also be held online. Lessons are also available in Missouri City. The first lesson is free to define learning goals and methodology.

My current rate is $25/hr.

For writing tutoring, I am happy to edit your essay ahead of time for grammar and clarity. We can then review the edits together, or I can just send your essay back to you. Any time spent editing the essay will be charged as time spent tutoring.
