About Maisie
About me I am a BA Human Geography student who has undertaken tutoring as a volunteer for GCSE students during the coronavirus pandemic. Whilst still being a qualifying Geography degree, I have also studied in depth subjects such as sustainability and urban development. These important topics are in most GCSE exam specifications. After my degree, I am hoping to become a secondary school teacher, so I have a passion for teaching my subject to others. Whilst having no direct experience in secondary schools, I have been a regular volunteer in a local primary school and have experience online tutoring. This has taught me an organised method of teaching along with skills such as communication and patience.

I have a relaxed but impactful teaching style. I strongly believe that by creating a calm, relaxed and friendly environment you will learn more. By creating this atmosphere, from experience I have learnt, students will be confident to ask important questions along the way and therefore fully understand what we are covering. The following is what our structure will look like: -First we will go over your current grade, what you want to achieve from our sessions and any initial queries and questions -Then we will confirm what exam board it is you are studying with. I will then present you with a list of topics taken from the exam specification and you will rank them with the order you feel most confident -We will work through these topics, starting with the hardest first. It is easy as a student, to pick subjects to focus on that we feel most confident with. However, we must tackle problem areas and work through them first -Each section will consist of a PowerPoint on the topic. To begin with you will judge your confidence level on the subject, from red to orange to green. Which then will be reviewed at the end of the session -You will be encouraged to ask questions as we go through, checking you are confident every step of the way -You will be sent a copy of these PowerPoints as a revision aid -Homework will include one or two example exam questions on what we have covered which should be completed and returned for review at the next session It is important to know all information presented will be taken from exam specification so only relevant material is open As part of the service you will be able and encouraged to ask any questions throughout the week regarding school work or the questions set from myself
