About Joshua
Hello all,
I have been a ceritifed teacher working in SC Greenville for the last 3 years. I have been tutoring students outside of school with Algebra, chemistry, ELA, and other subjects for the last 3 years as well. I am very well rounded and knowledgable on many subjects. I graduated from SUNY Brockport with a Master's degree in Education in 2016. I was homeschooled all throughout my childhood until college and so I am very comfortable and familiar working to improve myself and others education outside of the normal school structure. Because of my experience in tutoring, teaching, and homeschooling I am very resourceful and able to adapt and assist others with any educational needs.
Over the last 3 years I have been teaching Social Studies, ELA, computer coding, ESL, and Special education classes at my school for kids ages 10-15. I have a very versatile background, and look forward to helping your child grow and enjoy learning.
I love watching a child grasp a skill or concept they were struglling with previously. I am also very goal oriented and so enjoy setting small reasonable goals for students then celebrating with them when they achieve that goal.
Since I was homeschooled for my entire life I always had an interest in knowledge. My parents left me to my own devices really and so I learned how to teach myself and study what was interesting to me. I became very skilled at researching and learning on my own. When I was in college I realized that I enjoyed helping and working with children. I have three children of my own and watching their love of learning grow brings me a lot of joy.
I have recieved my Master's degree in Education at SUNY Brockport. I have been certified in SC and teaching in Greenville county for the last 3 years. Over that time I have tutored students who were removed from school because of behavior or health issues. I have become very resourceful at assisting students of all ages and with all subjects because of the wide range of students who need assistance outside of school.

I am very flexible when I work with a student. I have no problem communicating and working with a student via Google Hangout if working online is preferable. I most often meet with students at local libraries that are convenient for the student and their family. As well, if the student and parents desire I do not mind going to their house to work with the student in a more familiar and comfortable setting.
I have worked with students ranging in age from 6-17. I currently teach 6th graders, but have taught 5th, 10th-12th grade as well. I have also taught special education classrooms, and am very comfortable working with students with disabilities. As a tutor I have worked mostly with middle and high school age children.
If you are looking for a tutor to supplement and assist you with your school work, I would look for a tutor who is flexible and great at adapting to the individual needs you have. Students learn and grow in different ways, and tutors should be able to provide positive encourangement and guidance to their students.
Over the course of this last year one of my proudest moments was working with a student and developing their leadership skills. This student entere my classroom at the beginning of the year clearly intelligent but unwilling to work. Through a lot of effort and time learning about him and building a relationship I was able to encourage him to become interested in learning. I have taught him how to research and learn independently so that he has the tools to be successful in all of his classes.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Before you ask for assistance ensure you have a specific need or question that you can ask a tutor to assist you with. If you need resources or support with one type of math problem, make sure you are clear with what you need.
Recommendations
Recommendations are written by the tutor's friends, family, and acquaintances.
Mr. Jenks was always friendly and helpful during our tutoring sessions. He was great at breaking down what teachers wanted or what their directions meant since he is also a teacher.
