About Julie

As a teacher and tutor, there is no greater moment than the "AHA" moment. Seeing a student "get" a concept and grow in their reading is the absolute best!

I am a certified teacher and have been teaching for five years. I have a wide range of experiences, from kindergarten to seniors in high school. My experience with Response to Intervention, dyslexia, and early literacy formed a passion for helping struggling readers. I hold a Bachelor's in Education and a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction.

It is all about growth. I meet students where they are and focus skills based on areas needing improvement. There is no cookie cutter method here. Every person learns differently, so I take an individualized approach to students' reading goals.

Education is my passion, and I have wanted to be a teacher from a very young age. When my girls were little, I started working as a toddler teacher at an early childhood program. I took early childhood coursed and worked my way up to be the Director of the same program. I worked in early childhood for 10 years. Once my girls were older, I returned to school and completed my Bachelors and Masters degrees.

I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas in 2017. In May 2020, I received a Masters of Arts in Curriculum and Instructions from Angelo State University. In the past five years, I have attended numerous professional developments to further my understanding and skill. I have the following Texas certifications: PK-6 General Education Core Subjects, PK-12 Special Education, PK-12 English as a Second Language (ESL). I am also certified in Arizona with the following certifications: K-8; Mild/Moderate Special Education; English as a Second Language.

About the lesson

When working with a new student, I like to first get to know a little about him/her. Through information from parents, as well communicating with the student, I am able to build a positive relationship that fosters learning. From there, I meet each student at their ability level and work toward growth utilizing educational best practices and skills focused activities.

I have worked with both general education and special education students in public and charter schools ranging from kindergarten through 12th grade. I have taught early literacy intervention, kindergarten, 6th/7th grade Social Studies, 7th grade English, 8th grade writing, and 9-12 English.

Before seeking to hire a tutor/teacher, determine an end goal by considering what areas you need improvement. I would also encourage students to consider their time availability and willingness to participate in lessons. I recommend an initial consultation with a tutor to determine best fit.

K-2 Students: $15/30 minutes (I do not recommend sessions longer than 30 minutes for this age group.)

3-8 Students: $25/hour
