About Zachery

Being a high school English teacher, I feel confident that I possess the necessary skills to help children and young adults improve their writing, reading, and comprehension of the English language. I pride myself on being a patient and approachable person and I try my best to form a good rapport with my students and to meet them at their level of understanding. I consider myself a professional, friendly, efficient, and relatable person and I look forward to working with kids who either need a bit of guidance in their reading and writing or who need to be challenged so that they can reach their full potential.

Orignially I'm a communications major, so I initially started off pursuing a career in video editing and production. Shortly after I met my wife, she introduced me to the idea of teaching and after some thought I started off my career in education as an instuctional aid. While working as an aid for a year, I began my enrollment in the Tx Teachers program, and the following year I began my high school teaching career.

About the lesson

The intitial visit will consist of a meet and greet, a preassessment, and together the student and I will form a plan with obtainable goals that they would like to achieve in their future tutoring sessions.

This past year I worked with academically low and low socio-economic student and this year I'm working with students from higher income backgrounds. Ethnically I have worked with Hispanic, African-American, Asian, and White children.

I would first and formost advise the student to contact the tutor-teacher first and see if he/she and the teacher would be a good match. From there, the student would be able to discern and make a decision about the teacher off of their first impression and initial contact.

Today I was working with a group of sophmores to annotate and disect the literary elements used in the short story "Lamb to the Slaughter." I loved the way my students were engaged in the story and I loved seeing their reactions to the different plot elements that occured throughout.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I think that a student should evaluate their skill set first, so that they can approach a teacher with the skill that they are deficient in and want to improve in.
