About David
Since graduating from Brown University in 2015, I have worked in classroom and extracurricular settings with students ages 3-19, including some young people with socioemotional and learning differences. My deep background and varied experience in education and human development has given me the skills to work effectively with all different kinds of students. Furthermore, I have experience delivering instruction in a wide variety of subjects, including language arts, mathematics, and social studies.
As an educator, my most distinctive trait is the high level of thoughtfulness I bring to my work, both in my interactions with students, as well as in conceptualizing and reflection on my own instruction. This quality manifests both in the deep care I take in developing relationships with students and families, as well as in the carefully created lessons and curricula that I develop.
I am motivated to work as an educator because of the daily opportunities to engage in a combination of human-focused design, rigorous analysis, and deep personal connections. I deeply enjoy the opporunity to analyze the strengths, needs, and interests of my students and think creatively about unique and personalized ways to cultivate the knowledge, skills, and motivation that they are seeking. Furthermore, I view the study of any given subject as a vehicle for the broader education and development of the individual, and I am most excited and driven in teaching when I am building connections from the immediate content to broader topics or skills. Finally, I love the interpersonal aspects of teaching and tutoring and find joy in building meaningful and productive relationships with students. For all of these reasons, I continue to find professional and personal satisfaction in this work.
Since graduating from Brown University in 2015, I have spent the past four years working with youth in both classroom and extracurricular settings, giving me a wide breadth of skills in delivering academic instruction, behavior management, and student tracking and assessment. In particular, I have worked for educational organizations including Rock Point School, The Learning Project Elementary School, the Eliot-Pearson Children’s School, and the American Youth Foundation. I have held positions including Program Coordinator, Residential Educator, and Teaching Intern. All of these professional experiences have broadened and honed my skills in developing effective relationships with students, developing creative and targeted lessons, and delivering material in a clear and engaging manner.

I have worked with students from a wide variety of ages, backgrounds, and ability levels. In particular, I have worked with students ranging from age 3 to 19. I have also professionally mentored and supervised college-aged students and led large group trainings and small seminars for young people in that age group. I have taught students with different cognitive and socioemotional abilities requiring IEPs or other individualized forms of support. I have worked with students from rural, urban, and suburban environments, as well as from high-, middle-, and low-income families, and from a wide variety of different cultures, races, and ethnicities. I am always excited by the opportunity to work with a diverse range of students and families that challenge me to find new ways of individualizing and improving my instruction.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Who are my favorite teachers, coaches, etc. that I’ve had in the past? What specific traits made them feel especially effective to me? What needs do I have that a teacher would need to know about to do a good job helping me? What am I hoping to gain from this educational experience, and is this teacher poised to help me successfully navigate this growth?
