About Katie

I have been an English teacher for the past eight years at a private school in Smithtown. I am NYS certified to teach grades 7-12. I have experience in teaching grammar, writing, vocabulary and literature. I have also coached students in making speeches as well. I will help you with whatever you want to improve on in your English class.

I enjoy working with students and helping them succeed in becoming a better writer and communicator.

I always wanted to be a teacher. After college I started teaching at a private school in Patchogue and then in Smithtown.

I have been an English teacher for the past 8 years. I have my bachelor's degree in English Secondary Education and my master's degree in English literature.

About the lesson

I usually ask them what they are currently studying in English class. I also ask what they think their strengths and weaknesses are in the class. I have them tell me what they would want to learn and accomplish in our session together. I encourage students to bring their notes and work from class, so I can go over it with them.

I have worked with all different types of students. The classes I taught were all general Ed classes. I have had some students with IEPs and 504s in my classes.

I would tell the student to always come prepared with work to do. Class notes, , homework, a current essay they are someone on or a book they are reading so I can actually help them with their work.

Every year I coach high school seniors on their senior symposium speech. So far the student I have coached each year has won first or second place. It is always rewarding to see my students succeed.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
They should figure out what they are struggling with. They should tell the tutor their strengths and weaknesses so the tutor can help as much as possible.
