About Katie

I am an individual English, Literature, and Non-Fiction Writing tutor. I am an editor for published authors, college students, and a Language Arts and Grammar tutor for 3rd through 12th-grade students.

I have a passion for teaching people the art of language and writing. Interpreting literature is something I have always enjoyed and I love to share that passion with others.

I have worked for two non-profits teaching STEM and homework help for 5 years while attending the University of Texas at Austin and Texas State University. I became an assistant teacher at Mariposa Montessori School in August of 2019.

I have worked with students for over 7 years, I have edited books for two published authors, and I am currently receiving Montessori training as an assistant teacher.

About the lesson

Each student learns differently and requires different needs. Whether the student needs help with a specific project or overall improvement, I go through a short questionnaire to assess their needs as well as ask to review a recent piece of the work they wish to improve on. This ensures that all of the student's requirements are given the proper amount of attention.

I have been working as a part-time tutor for 7 years and have worked with 5-25 year-olds, as well as students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, dyslexia, visual impairments, ESL, and other special needs. I make personalized lesson plans for each student, so all are welcome.

Tutors should be kind, patient, and understanding of the student's needs. Usually, tutors are called upon when the student's actual teacher cannot afford the time, does not teach in a method helpful to the student, refuses to help, or gives up on the student. Find a tutor that you are confident can adapt to your needs, and who takes the time to help without frustration.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I pride myself on never just giving a student the answer, but guiding the child through their own knowledge to an answer they find themselves. This allows the child to come to a conclusion on their own, cementing the concept in their mind because they learned it themselves.

All questions should be asked, but the answers should not all be given.
