About Emma

I work with my students to foster confidence in their writing and speaking abilities whether that is through creative writing exercises, help with homework assignments or confronting the mental blocks associated with creation.

I have been a storyteller since I was a young child. This led me to pursue my love of the written word, performance and public speaking as early as my high school years. I continued that passion with a B.A. from Brown University in Theatre Arts Writing for Performance. At Brown I was given the opportunity to learn more than to just sing and dance. I have extensive knowledge of theatre history and theory, playwriting, public speaking, and poetry.

I am currently pursuing a masters in Communication online from Syracuse Univeristy Newhouse School. I am learning how to utilize my creative writing skills in a business enviornment as I work my way towards a career in entrepreneurship, teaching, and marketing.

In my experience working with children and peers I have found that often what stops students from being able to share a story is more than just not understanding the concepts they are learning in class, but rather how it relates to their life. What I like to help students do is develop their voice because once they can harness that, they will be able to tell any story that comes into their mind!

My teaching stemmed from my days as an actor. I was always the group leader in my younger years. I grew into directing as I got older and then started peer editing and teaching public speaking to friends and family. From there, I have decided that more than just my close friends and online network could benefit from a confidence boost as it relates to their creative endeavors.

As a long time writer both in an academic setting and professional, I have had extensive training in how to optimize writing for SEO purposes as well as crafting creative writing essays for high school or college settings. What I like to teach my students is that whatever you are writing or speaking about, it comes from them and their relation to the subject matter. Once my students can grasp what their thoughts are on their assignment, they can they use any tools we might need to use to craft a winning story or even argue the opposing view (if needed).

About the lesson

I work online via Zoom or FaceTime with students to create ease around their hectic life. Depending upon what kind of tutoring they are in need of, I work with my students on a weekly basis to go over any upcoming assignments and projects. We create an outline about each of our to-do's that we need to accomplish before the next meeting. As I work with a lot of writers, if there is work that isn't necessary to do during a session, I am happy to do some editing offline.

High school students, college students, and peer editors.

I would advice that a student set up a free 20 minute consultation call to see if it is a mutual fit. It is hard to learn from a tutor that doesn't seem to understand the student's creative process. It is also very helpful for the tutor to know what kind of learner this student is. The more information both the student and tutor can have going into their working together, can be very important in the strength of their relationship.

I work hourly both online and offline. I have a base price per hour and if my student needs more time or offline hours, I bill for those additional hours. My billing cycle is every 2 weeks. Please reach out if you have any questions about pricing and billing.
