About Teresa
As a Special Educator I have experience meeting all kinds of needs.
Seeing lightbulbs go on in the eyes of students I teach makes all the hard work worth it!
I have been a teacher my entire life, teaching everything from Springboard Diving to Mural painting along with every core subject in between. I started my career in Baltimore City Public Schools teaching both math and science to middle school special education students and have since gained experience working with elementary/middle school students with and without disabilities in the inclusion setting, small group and the general education setting.

I have had the pleasure of working with a diverse groups of special needs students with ADHD, emotional disabilities, specific learning disabilities, autism, asperger’s syndrome, oppositional defiant disorder, dyslexia, dysgraphia, speech impairments along with the general education population. I also gained a great deal of experience working with the African American and Latino cultures while teaching in inner city Baltimore. I enjoy teaching large classrooms, small groups as well as team teaching the inclusion setting. I especially enjoy the collaboration that is involved in being a special educator. Working with a variety of students, teachers, administrators, support staff and parents makes for great opportunities to share experiences, insight and knowledge which ultimately leads to growth both personally and professionally. Throughout my teaching career I have learned to differentiate instruction by collaborating with others to consider student’s unique strengths, developmental needs, learning modalities, behaviors, along with individual demographics, culture, race, and gender. I enjoy creating multisensory lessons that involve consideration of the multiple intelligences through the use of technology, the arts, inquiry, community and nature. Teaching in Baltimore city afforded me many opportunities to incorporate our community into student learning. Some examples are developing a community garden and greenhouse, visits to local restaurants, museums and parks for math walks, science lessons, art exploration etc… In addition to teaching during school I have also lead after school clubs such as chess, robotics, science, art, set design, puppet making and literacy circles. Furthermore my experience has given me the opportunity to develop my leadership skills, as Summer School/Camp Director, chairing school wide Science Fairs, developing and leading school fundraisers as well as organizing parent volunteers for projects like school clean-ups and building raised beds for the school greenhouse.
Learning is and should always be a personal journey that I am here to help guide you through. I will do my best to help and encourage you to do your best to learn.
This year I am teaching part time and have a much smaller caseload, which has allowed me to get to know my students better and develop a greater fondness for working with student individually.
