About Emily

I am passionate about accessible education and teaching with a background in English, arts, and humanities. I graduated from the University of Oregon with a 3.87, majoring in cinema studies with minors in creative writing and anthropology. I am proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud and Final Cut, functionally fluent in Spanish, and have a history in teaching short term classes and tutoring in writing, film, and photography.

I love watching students become passionate about learning. I understand how struggling with material can be disheartening and frustrating, but with a personalized one-on-one approach, students can excel when given the opportunity to learn from a teaching method that works for them.

I began tutoring in high school at my teacher's recommendation. I have always been passionate about and excelled in film and media theory and writing.

I have taught multiple summer classes for film, photography, and creative writing. I have also tutored multiple students 7 through 15 years old in essay and creative writing, film, and film theory.

About the lesson

I prefer looking at a portfolio or examples of the student's work first to assess the student's current ability. I will also ask the student their self-assessed strengths and weaknesses and the areas they would like to improve in first. From there, we will work together to create a plan based on the student's needs and target proficiency.

I have taught short term summer classes for ages 7-10 and 12-15 in essay and creative writing, film, and photography.

An optimal tutor not only understands the material, but should be able to teach the material in multiple ways. No two students learn the same way and it is important for a tutor to be adaptable, patient, and amiable.
