About Izzy
Hello there! My name is Isileli Kakala (male), but I go by Izzy for short. I'm a 22-year-old college student at Harvard University majoring in History of Science and minoring in Economics. Currently, I'm on a gap year, but I will be returning to campus in 2023 to complete my senior year!
My philosophy is to provide high-quality learning experiences and academic support while also developing a mentorship relationship to help students succeed in the long term. I welcome students in elementary, middle, and high school. Subjects I can assist with include math, biology, chemistry, French, English, essay writing/proofreading/editing; I can even help with school projects and job/school applications! I am based in Manteca, California, and can be of service anywhere in the Bay Area and Central Valley; in-person and Zoom calls are both great!
Though this is my first year providing services as a tutor, I have extensive work and volunteer experiences via college extracurriculars, summer internships, and community service that translate well into this line of work. Several examples include working with children in medical clinics in Peru and the Dominican Republic; mentoring first and second-year college students with career opportunities through the Harvard Global Health Institute; volunteering as a Science teacher for an after-school program at a public elementary school. Learn more about my work through my resume and/or LinkedIn!
Fun facts: I want to be a doctor (will be applying to medical school next year), I love to travel (been to over 15 countries), and I have 6 siblings (I'm the second oldest)!
Feel free to ask me any questions! I'm so excited to meet you! Don't hesitate to reach out.

Tutoring is such a powerful resource that has personally helped me throughout my own academic journey (I have my own tutor in college— organic chemistry is tough!). I enjoy serving as that same resource and giving back to students by helping them succeed in the classroom.
I started teaching elementary school kids about science and the different careers in the field for the Cambridge Youth Enrichment Program through the Phillips Brooks House at Harvard. This was a way I could give back to the community by inspiring an interest in science topics and careers in students from public schools.
I am currently in my senior year (to be completed after my gap year) at Harvard University. I'm pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in History of Science and Economics on both an Honors and premedical track. My first three years at Harvard have sharpened my understanding of the topics that I provide tutoring for through rigorous coursework spanning subjects such as: mathematics, statistics, economics, life and physical sciences, history, and writing.

First establishing a relationship and allowing the student to be comfortable with me. I like to make the lessons as fun, digestible, and tailored as possible. It's always better when the student is not feeling forced to do the work but feels motivated and even excited to improve their learning.
Elementary school kids (ages 8 - 13).
Try to imagine if the person you're trying to hire fits your learning style. Do you want someone older like your school teacher, or someone younger like an older sibling to work with you? Do you think you'll be engaged in your work with this person? Will you feel like you can understand their teaching style? These are all questions you should ask and try to answer by reading their bios or even meeting over a Zoom call!
I was just recently elected to be the Class Marshal for the entire student body of 2022 at Harvard. Essentially, I am one of the leaders/representatives for our graduating class in our alumni lives. I will help liaison between Harvard and the alumni class and set up reunions.
