About Gina

I have taught students with learning differences for over 12 years at Franklin Academy in East Haddam, CT. I am also certified to teach Social Studies in grades 7-12. When teaching or providing tutoring to students, I use content as a vehicle to work with students on reading comprehension, writing, critical thinking, and study skills.

After obtaining my master's degree in counseling, I decided to enter the teaching profession. As I worked in the counseling field, I found that I loved facilitating psychoeducational groups with adolescents and felt that teaching would be a great fit for me.

About the lesson

When I first start working with a student, I begin by developing an understanding of the student's goals, strengths, and weaknesses. I also like to discuss the student's expectations of me and my expectations of them. In addition to helping students learn content, I aim to help students strengthen their reading, writing, and study skills.

I have taught social studies courses to students in grades 7-12 in a public high school. I have also worked with students with learning differences in an independent school. Lastly, I have worked with students from culturally diverse backgrounds as a counselor.

Each year former students return to Franklin Academy to see current students graduate. I love catching up with them and hearing about their success.
