About Kelly

I enjoy working with young adolescents. I get a big "kick" out of them. I've found that I can connect to them in spite of my age. Maybe that's because I raised my own children or that I remember the confusing time myself.

I have a double Masters degree and earned a Reading Specialist certificate. I have also taught at Chicago and Governors State Universities.

I have an excellent sense of humor which makes middle schoolers the perfect age group for me.

I love to read, but understand why others don't and I love the challenge of helping people find "just the right" book.

I like to plan enrichment exercises, not just focus on homework assignments.

I worked in the business world for 20 years, part-time.

I returned to get my teaching certificate after teaching at the university level. That's one of the best decisions I ever made.

About the lesson

I like to get to know the students first. Their identity, concerns, strengths and weaknesses.

Then I like to do some basic diagnostics of reading capabilities.

I also like for the families to become involved with their student's learning.

I have worked with all types of middle school students, special needs to honors. Energetic to extremely shy. English and non-English speakers. Higher income to lower income families. All different types of families.

I have also coached both boys' and girls' varsity tennis at the high school. I loved the interaction with the older students.

I currently guest teach in the CM201U district. I enjoy being able to impart my own knowledge of literature and history and I enjoy learning other subjects and technologies.
