About Carrie

My passion is to help children learn how to read! It makes my heart happy when students are able to read their favorite books and genres!

I have 6 years of experience as an elementary teacher.

I teach students how to read, write, phonics, and grammar. I have a Texas general EC-6 teaching certificate, a special education EC-12 teaching certificate, and an ESL Supplemental EC-12 teaching certificate.

I worked with special needs children and quickly found out how much I enjoy helping students reach their goals and conquer their trouble areas.

I have a degree in psychology with a general EC-6 teaching certificate, a special education EC-12 teaching certificate, and an ESL supplemental EC-12 teaching certificate. I have taken many phonics, early reading, and dyslexia training as a teacher.

About the lesson

I always introduce myself to a new student. I tell them a little about me and ask them questions about themselves. I always want the new student to feel comfortable with me so they understand I am there to help them! I always ask the student where they are struggling to find a baseline. I then let them know that I am going to help them and try to make it fun along the way!

I have worked with ESL, general education, and special education students.

Make sure you are comfortable and trust the teacher! Learning can and should be fun!

I had a student in my class who struggled to read books. After practicing sight words with him every day, he was able to increase the words he could read and start reading books he enjoyed.
