About Michael
I have helped a number of student in various age categories. My strong suit is any course involving writing as well as Elementary through High School Math and Science. I began tutoring when I worked as a Teaching Assistant during my undergraduate studies at SUNY University at Buffalo, where I now attend law school. As a teaching assistant I helped several struggling students go from possibly failing the course to getting very respectable grades, even some A's. I continued my services through the rest of my undergraduate studies until now. I believe my best quality as a tutor is my ability to find a way to get each student to understand the material in a way that works for them and fits their own unique way of viewing the world around them. I try to make learning the material fun enough to maintain interest, but structured enough that all the information gets covered.
Every time I work with a different student I seem to learn something new myself, or at least have it stick in my mind better than before. I also like the moment where a student realizes "wow I can actually do this"!
As a teaching assistant
I have a Bachelors Degree in Psycholgy with a minor in Counseling. I am currently a 3rd year law student. During my undergraduate study I was a teaching assistant for multiple courses.

Meet the student to find out their interests. I then have the student make a list of strengths and weaknesses as well as a lost of what they do and dont like about the topic of study. I then review the material the student is struggling with and develop a lesson plan. I then go over the plan and a suitable schedule with the student. From that point how I help the student achieve what they need to flow somewhat organically, as I try to make my style match the individual. For example if I have a student that simply has trouble staying interested long enough to learn something they find boring, I will take a more game based approach. If it is an issue with writing I will go over basic tips of how to approach writing while also having the student compare different writing styles of various types of writers.
College, High School, some elementary (mostly my own children)
Be willing to find the person that isn't going to talk AT you for the whole time. Go with someone who has their students doing the work and explains as you hit obstacles along the way.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Am I really putting in the work?
Is this a problem with the difficulty of the topic or my interest in the topic?
What has helped me learn better in the past and can I use that here?
Do I hate the topic or do I hate the way it's being taught?

I struggled with math all through school. I had to retake a college entrance exam and failed on math. Mike helped me understand math by getting me to look at everything differently than I was taught in high school. I passed my entrance exam the next go around and math was one of my best scores!
Good at explaining confusing concepts in a simple and comprehensive manner.
