About Alex
My name is Alex (she/her), and I'm a college student studying Film. All throughout school I've loved English class, and I hope to help others who may struggle with the subject excel in it. With a little guidance and a bit of time, I believe anyone can be successful in any academic pursuit.
I started getting an interest in teaching at 16 when I was approached by my mom's church's education director and asked to be a teaching assistant for the 6th grade Sunday school class. The year after that I was moved to being a co-teacher for the 2nd grade Sunday class. I loved working with the kids and helping them each week. Now, I'd like to continue helping young students learn and succeed.
Before the pandemic, I helped teach a second-grade Sunday class every week. My main task was to help the students with the readings in their books as well as help them with spelling when answering questions in the book. This has defiantly helped me in growing my patience when helping younger students, who sometimes need more help paying attention and staying on task.

First, I'd like to get to know the student and what they're struggling with. The best way, I believe, to help a student stay engaged with a subject is to help them relate it to other things they enjoy. Making learning fun and engaging is the best way to help a student succeed in school.
I've mainly worked with 2nd-grade-aged children, some being extremely shy. Though I did spend a year working with middle school aged students, I do prefer working with the elementary aged groups.

Details
My pricing is simply $12 an hour Monday through Friday during the school year, and $15 an hour Saturday & Sunday or during holiday breaks/summer.
