About Chad
When I began as a drafter / designer and later an Engineer, I got the "Sink-or-Swim" treatment. I do not think this is the best way for junior engineers and designers to learn. It has been important to me to teach everything I can to junior designers and engineers throughout my career.
I have a Bachelor's of Science in Design and Drafting. After earning this degree I was a design / drafter / detailer for (5) years. At that time I earned a second degree a Bachelor's of Science in Civil Engineering. My concentration since then has been in Structural Engineering. I am trained in the calculations as they relate to wood, concrete and steel design. I am also trained in IBC, ASCE, IBC, ACI, AISC and NDS codes.

Firstly, it is important to understand the students needs. The needs of college level graduate course vs. the needs of a high school entry level course are vastly different. Once those expectations are clearly established I like to have the student walk my through their biggest issue. This will let me understand where the student's knowledge is, and more importantly what gaps I can help fill.
I have yet to work with anyone on this website. People I have trained include junior level designers and engineers.
The advice I would give to a student looking to hire a teacher in my area of expertise is to make sure you get someone who has a range of experience. The things you will be taught in college are important, but it cannot beat real world practical experience. Try to find someone who has that real world practical experience.
As it relates to engineering. I have recently been involved in designing large wood structures using engineered wood products. This is an incredibly exciting field in the structural design and engineering world.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
It is important to identify the root cause of your issue. If there is an example you are having difficulty with, what exact part of the problem is causing you to have difficulty with this problem.
