About Charlie

Hey y'all,

My name is Charlie Fisher, I perform original songs as Charlie Swisher, but also offer my services as a music teacher. I've been playing both bass and drums for over a decade and am also profficient on many other instruments. I'm currently the Bass instructor at the Frank Hamilton School in Atlanta, but also teach drums/percussion, song writing, beginner music theory and intros to music recording.

My method of teaching instruments tends to use songs in order to learn techniques and skills as opposed to lesson books or drills. I also borrow from the teachings of Victor Wooten in order to give students not only the skill-sets of an instrument player, but that of a well rounded full-on Musician. At the same time I make sure there's a fun, positive, and encouraging atmosphere, while maintaining the flexibility to take students where they want to go with their lessons.

My favorite part of teaching music is when a student transitions from thinking they can't do something to actually doing it. And as a teacher when I find something a student thinks they can't do, I'll immediately do my best to give them a shortcut to being able to do it, because usually a short cut is simple. But once we've got the short cut down we'll expand into the complexities of a skill-set until the student has a firm understaning of it.

And just btw all ages welcome young or old.

My father was a proffesional Harmonica player in the ciy of Atlanya so I've been around music my whole life, more specifically I've been song writing for about ten years, and played drums and bass even longer. I'm ProTools certified, and received teaching from accomplished audio/mix engineer Phil Tan at the Rick Baker School of Music Callenwolde. I also completed the Recording Connection program.

About the lesson

With a brand new student I will ask a few questions to understand where you're at musically, but after that we'll jump in pretty quick.

If you're coming for instrument lessons then I'll probably already have a song we can learn that day and you'll literally leave the first lesson being able to play a song. Or is there a song you already know you'd like to learn? Even better! You can let me know and we'll get right to breaking it down. Similarly for songwriting, theory, or recording lessons, we will either analyze or create a song on day 1!

And just by the way all ages are welcome young or old!

I tend to charge $35/hour session for instruments, $25/hour session for theory, recording, and or writing lessons. However this is flexible and please feel free to reach out if you're not sure if you'll be able to pay those prices. There will be no judgement, just a simple discussion to get us on the same page and to work something out.
