About Jeff

I'm personable and spend extra time outside the lesson to follow up with and encourage students.

I work closely with students, learning their strengths and helping them embrace their talent and improve. And I love seeing them succeed!

I also hold an annual recital where I offer students the opportunity to showcase what they have learned for their friends and family. It's a hoot!

I studied music formally at university. Moreover, I have played music in school, church and in many bands throughout my life from an early age. I fell into teaching, initially, as a way to help with my student expenses and to share my knowledge and experience with younger students who were considering studying music in college. Currently I play with a Jazz/Blues/R&B band (Donna Jones & The Delegation) and do occasional recording sessions by request and this experience greatly contributes to the lessons I deliver each week.

I attended Metropolitan State University in Denver and the University of Hawaii's music performance programs. I have played in numerous ensembles ranging from jazz bands, funk trios, rock bands, orchestra pit, church choirs & gospel ensembles as well as studio work.

About the lesson

I find a baseline from which to start, establish skill level and go from there. We set goals and recognize milestones. I provide guidance and/or positive influence and strive to inspire the student's drive and passion for music.

Students as young as 7 and as old as 62, from beginner to advanced, and with certain disabilities. I've worked with many levels successfully.

Before talking to me about your project it helps to have some goals in mind. Just a couple short-term goals and maybe a long-term goal. Many times these may change as I help you through your journey but it gives us a starting point.

Most recently, I held my first student recital. It was an ambitious undertaking because we (my wife and I) wanted to keep it informal yet have the feeling of an evening of performance and celebration. We used our home as the venue, invited students' family and friends and anyone else in their support circle. We prepared food & beverages, hired a photographer and rented sound equipment as well as invited the neighbors to cover ourselves from any noise complaints. It turned out to be a much larger task than we anticipated but we pulled it all together and made it a very successful and fun event for performers and attendees alike. We are definitely doing an annual event going forward!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Be honest with yourself about your goals and why you're interested in taking drum lessons. This is going to require time and effort on your part- the talent is one thing, but if you're not committed or interested enough to put in the work then you will fail. My or any instructor's efforts can only take you as far as the door- you as the student have to walk through it. So, be punctual, be a good student by doing the assigned work, put in the time and remember, we are both working toward your success. Don't waste your time or money, but spend it wisely by working hard and believing you can do it.

His affable personality and knowledge of drum skill progression! My son started taking drum lessons and would tell us what he learned and how much fun he was having—my daughter started taking lessons soon after. Both kids have continued and are still having fun and getting better.

Jeff is a great teacher and mentor, he lives and breathes drums and loves to share what he knows. I've been taking lessons from him for almost 2 years at this point, and it's been a lot of fun getting to this point from where I could barely do the basics of snare and kick drum. Jeff genuinely enjoys teaching, and gets very enthusiastic when talking about students progression. Plus he's a wealth of music knowledge and loves to talk about bands, and is good about introducing students to music they can play at their level that they might enjoy.

It's very simple: $20 per half hour, $30 for 45 min or $40 per hour. Group classes/camps are also available depending on conditions. I accept payment via check, cash or any of the following apps: PayPal, Venmo, Ca$h.
