About Tyler

Diversity is my specialty! I've performed with the likes of The Blue Man Group, Kanye West, and even worked with John Williams recording percussion for Star Wars: The Last Jedi. I regularly perform in Southern California with groups ranging from wedding bands, Brazilian Samba groups, Tiki bands, Rock bands, jazz groups, and small orchestras.

Whether your interest is drum set, hand percussion, steel pan, marching/classical percussion, and more, I've got you covered. With a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Percussion Performance, my extensive experience and education allows me to custom tailor a curriculum to take your playing to its highest potential!

I also provide lessons in beginning and intermediate piano, music theory, composition, music production, and recording techniques.

Performing music is something that I have dedicated my life to, and getting to share that passion with others has always been very important to me. Seeing my students achieve their own success and pass on the traditions that were passed on to me continues to inspire my work and passion in the world of drums and percussion.

I hold a Bachelor's degree in Percussion Performance from Humboldt State University, as well as a Master's Degree from California State University Long Beach. Over the years I've attended many specialized master classes, conferences, and extended education in different areas of percussion, including international music trips to Cuba, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago. I've taught in middle schools, high schools, at the College level, and worked for numerous music academies in addition to my over 15 years experience teaching in my own studio.

About the lesson

I start out by working with the student to identify their musicals goals and what instruments and styles of music they are most interested in. During the first few sessions, we will develop a lesson style that suits the student's unique needs and work to establish a lesson and practice schedule. We will address any instrument and technology logistics to make the lessons go as smoothly as possible.
