About Erin

I've been trained as a peer writing tutor during my college years at Washington University in St. Louis, and had the chance to work extensively with university and graduate students in various contexts. I also have experience working as a teaching assistant in a course called Management Communications, helping students find their brand voice in crafting resumes / cover letters and pitching themselves to companies.

I love the collaborative and open-ended aspects of writing - brainstorming and crafting ideas in a way that neither of us may have expected in the beginning. By asking each other questions and fostering a conversation around the work, I'm able to help the writer find his/her voice through writing.

I have a minor in Creative Writing from Washington University in St. Louis. In addition, I have worked as a paid peer tutor at the university's official Writing Center, working with undergraduate and graduate students with works ranging from academic essays to medical school applications. I also served as a paid teaching assistant to a college course called Management Communications, which focused on helping students craft a personal brand to prepare them for job searches.

About the lesson

First, I like to get to know the student. This allows me to figure out the student's strengths, and more importantly, their voice. Over time, we'll be able to trasnform the student's voice into written words on paper through discussions and practice. The ability to write well is similar to strengthening a muscle; the more you do it, the easier it becomes.
