About Seth
Hello! I'm Seth W, and I am a Computer Science Tutor!
I enjoy teaching new concepts, engaging with people in a learning environment, and being able to develop computer science skills. Taking my experience working as a software engineer/developer and combining it with the fulfillment I get from teaching makes me excited for what my future holds!
I currently hold a Computer Science Bachelor of Science Degree from SUNY Fredonia and my experience includes working as a software developer at Exele Information Systems, a software engineer II at Windstream, a software development Intern at AXA Equitable, a computer lab proctor/teaching assistant at SUNY Fredonia, and a camp counselor/teacher at iCanCodeClub.
I have knowledge of multiple languages, IDEs, and libraries, such as C++, C#, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Redux, Azure DevOps, Git, GitHub, Visual Studio, and more.
I am able to work autonomously, I'm a real people-person, and I am ready to apply my skills!
(concealed information)
In high school I began teaching at different summer camps and coding camps, and I continued throughout my formative years. I also was a teaching assistant and computer science proctor for my college's computer lab. On-and-off I have been involving in some form of teaching for about five years.

My typical process when working with new students is to first gauge their level of expertise. Knowing how much they know will allow me to fine-tune my teaching methods so as not teach them something they already know, and to not gloss over things they may not know.
After I know their level of knowledge, I ask them specifically what question(s) they have, and based on that I begin providing them with answers that allow them to learn solutions without me just giving them the answer. This challenges students in a helpful way that can often get them to understand the solution on their own, and have that solution solidified in their mind for future reference.
From then on I mostly allow the student to "drive" the learning experience by offering answers when necessary in a supportive, non-aggressive way. Every student has specific needs, therefore teaching methods need to be fluid and change over time.
I have worked with students as young as grade 3 all the way up to adult college students. Elementary school age kids, middle school age kids, high school teens, and college students, I've worked with them all.
Hire me!
Also, look for someone who has worked with a lot of different students of different ages and skill levels. Having experience in the industry is also a big plus.
A student I used to assist in college reached out to me so that I could assist him with his resume. I really appreciated that he trusted me enough to give valuable feedback and suggestions on ways he could improve his resume.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should try to come up with solutions, apply them, test them, and analyze the results before asking for assistance. While as a teacher I can provide some answers and ways of problem-solving, if a student isn't at least trying to legitimately learn and grow (i.e., just wanting the correct solution), then there's only so much I can do. It would dishonest if I just gave the answer away without the student learning why the answer is the answer.
