About Miranda
Science was something I didn't realize I loved so much until I went to college. It went from something I thought about as, "Hey, I'm not so bad at this" to "This is my life passion." I went from struggling in the sciences in high school to eventually earning a bachelor's degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. While in college I tutored in Biology, and both regular and AP Chemsitry for high school students, as well as Chemistry and Biology university students. I tutored students on the autism spectrum, in honors programs, and in between - all with the same awesome results. I promise, I won't give up until the student understands. Science is something I care deeply about, and genuinely enjoy teaching to others. My qualifications include a pending publication for 8 cancer drug compounds I discovered during my undergraduate chemistry research at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and my work in biotechnology with Tides Medical as a Senior Acquisition Technician attending cesearean sections to surgically acquisition placentas that were later converted to amniotic tissue grafts. I am in between jobs at the moment due to the pandemic, and tutoring was something I always thoroughly enjoyed, while also being a wonderful outlet to use my knowledge to help someone else in need.
I am between jobs right now due to the pandemic, but when I was working in surgery I enjoyed the adrenaline of the work. I enjoyed being able to use all of the knowledge I worked so many years to obtain to make a difference in the lives of others. I enjoyed being able to work in a field I was so passionate about, and getting to share the knowledge with others.
I originally started my science path working towards and bachelor's degree in Secondary Biology and Chemistry Education and ultimately switched my major to Pre-Medical biology so that I could focus more on the medical and life sciences, with a goal of continuing my education in the medical field and/or working in biomedical research. Tutoring was a job I found I enjoyed immensely and could easily work into my school schedule while in college, and is something I would love to offer now that I am in between jobs due to the pandemic.
I have a bachelor's degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. I have extensive research experience in cancer drug compound synthesis. My main occupation after college was working in surgery for a biotechnology company acquisitioning placentas during cesearean sections and processing them into amniotic tissue grafts. I also spent the majority of my time in college tutoring in the sciences for special needs and honors students in high school.

I want to find what motivates them. That is the key to success. They don't have to love the subject matter, they just have to learn it. Relating to the student is an integral part of helping them succeed.
The majority of my students were on the autism spectrum, as I strongly relate to them having Asperger's myself, and growing up with two other brothers who are also on the spectrum. I did also work with honors students with great success.
Find someone that you can relate to. Don't settle for anything less than what you deserve. Express your needs and make sure that your needs will be met. Be selective and make sure you are in good hands.
The discovery and implementation of CRISPR is absolutely mind blowing. Having worked extensively in scientific research, the vast amount of science out there waiting to be utilized is almost overwhelming. This tool is an extremely intriguing example of potential for gene editing breakthroughs just waiting to be discovered.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Be honest with yourself about what you are struggling with. What do you need help with accomplishing? Life and knowledge become so much easier when you have a better understanding of the world around you. Fear and self doubt are normal but they do not define you, focus on what you need to unlock your fullest potential.
